Oilman Engineer Becomes Milkman as Norway's Best Jobs Disappear

(Bloomberg) -- When Joergen Langaunet started as a project planner at offshore engineer Aker Solutions ASA in 2012, he worked a lot of overtime. Norway’s oil industry, so rich it spawned the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund, was booming. Then last year, he realized he was spending most of his time in the lunch room: His services weren’t needed. In September, as crude prices were on their way to the biggest plunge since 2008, Langaunet lost his job. Today he’s a regional manager for Tine SA, Norway’s biggest dairy producer. “Our office went through two rounds of downsizing, so you start to see the picture when people have to leave and no matter how many people leave, there’s still less and less work to do,” the 29-year-old said by phone from Trondheim, Norway. Norwegian companies including Statoil ASA and global behemoths with Norwegian units, such as ConocoPhillips, are gearing up for the biggest investment cuts the Nordic nation has seen since 2000. As many as 40,000 jo

Mediclaim Vs Health Insurance -What do you need?

Have you ever bought a mediclaim policy and end up wondering, is it any different from health insurance? These two terms are too often used interchangeably. However, there are some sharp differences between them. While mediclaim limits itself specifically to hospitalization expenses, a health insurance is much more comprehensive and provides a cover that extends beyond hospitalization. Let's look at the detailed differences between Mediclaim and Health Insurance.   -------------- Mediclaim Mediclaim  pertains specifically to hospitalization. Simply put, it covers only hospital related expenses. For filing a mediclaim, hospitalization is required. The cover given is limited. The upper cap on the sum insured does not exceed 5 lakh in a typical mediclaim policy. Mediclaim works on indemnity principle wherein the hospitalization expenses incurred by the insured are reimbursed to him, thus making up for his loss. E.g. Gaurav owns a mediclaim policy. Last month,

12% of Life Insurance claims get rejected in India- only LIC is the exception with 97% claim settlement ratio

LIC is a household name that exudes confidence and trust. The state-owned insurer has the highest claim settlement record in the industry, which gives it an edge over private companies. In 2012-13, the LIC paid out 97.73% of the claims it received. Among private players, only five insurers, including ICICI Prudential Life, HDFC Life, SBI Life, Max Life and Kotak Life, reported a claim settlement ratio of over 90% during this period. Experts say that the insurers who have completed 10 years of operations ought to have a claim settlement record of over 90%. "A high claim settlement ratio indicates that the company pays all genuine claims, which reduces the buyer's worry," says Sunil Sharma, chief actuary at Kotak Mahindra Old Mutual Life Insurance. Given the tremendous brand equity of LIC, the e-Term plan is likely to become the preferred choice for most insurance buyers. -   LIC is a household name that exudes confidence and trust. The il(legitimate) battle for ECB control will have its results soon.

If ECB has political influence, Greek will have not much to expect. It will become clear in three to six months as to how politically independent ECB really is. Will The Eurozone Survive The Battle For Control Of The ECB? Feb. 5, 2015 3:21 AM ET | by Shareholders Unite | includes: fxe Summary The ECB was supposed to be completely independent from politics. While this was never realistic, the latest Greek debt episode is likely to produce some kind of culmination. This is because the ECBs control of funding of Greek banks is largely discretionary and the biggest weapon in bringing the Greek back into the troika fold. An intense battle for control of the ECB will ensue, will the Germans tolerate another loss? Will the eurozone survive these battlescars? In the ongoing Greek debt saga, the ECB did announce something risky: Greek sovereign bonds, T-bills and government-guaranteed debt will no longer be welcome at the ECB Tower as of 11 February. Brain scans show not much difference in Porn addiction and Cocaine addiction

Neurological research has revealed that the effect of internet pornography on the human brain is just as potent — if not more so — than addictive chemical substances such as cocaine or heroin. Cambridge University neuropsychiatrist Dr Valerie Voon has recently shown that men who describe themselves as addicted to porn (and who lost relationships because of it) develop changes in the same brain area – the reward centre – that changes in drug addicts. The study, not yet published, is featured next week in the Channel 4 TV show Porn on the Brain . Neurosceptics may argue that pictures of the brain lighting up in addicts tell us nothing new – we already know they are addicted. But they do help: knowing the reward centre is changed explains some porn paradoxes. In the mid-1990s I, and other psychiatrists, began to notice the following. An adult male, in a happy relationship, being seen for some non-romantic issue, might describe getting curious about porn on the burgeoning interne

Where Is Germany's Gold? Wo ist in Deutschland Gold- ?

Almost half of Germany’s gold resides at 33 Liberty St., the headquarters of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, 80 feet below street level in a vault that sits on Manhattan’s bedrock. In 2012, Boehringer started a campaign on his blog to bring it home. He argued the gold should be shipped to the German central bank in Frankfurt. The hoard, amassed during Germany’s postwar boom, had never been subject to a published bar-by-bar physical review by its owners. That lack of accounting had become an insatiable itch for Boehringer. As the volunteer chairman of a private storage company for silver and gold investors based in Gerstetten, Germany, Boehringer personally counts the holdings each year by lugging metal valued at some €140 million ($161 million) from one end of the vault to the other, just to make sure it’s all there. His blog became a hub for precious-metal fans. As gold prices peaked in 2011, the Taxpayers Association of Europe asked him to draft a letter to the Deutsche Bu

Visakhapatnam will be the first city to be taken up for development as a smart city by Cisco Systems, the global IT networking major and the implementing company. Cisco informed Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday that its development model for Visakhapatnam would be adopted in the other smart cities — Allahabad and Ajmer.
