Which movies are made on real incidents in India?

Reality inspires filmmakers to make powerful movies.  Be it biopics, natural calamities, historical events or tragic human stories, many rousing headlines have turned into motion picture subjects. This week’s Friday release  Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain ,  directed by Ravi Kumar, examines the events that led to the  Bhopal gas tragedy of 1984 . Here’s a look at some of Bollywood’s most engaging films inspired by true-life incidents.   Bombay   M ani Ratnam’s  Bombay  came soon after the Babri Masjid-Ayodhya controversy and the communal rioting it triggered in Mumbai in 1992-93. That hardly stopped moviegoers from queuing up outside theatres to watch its Hindu-Muslim romance, challenged by the disharmony.   Black Friday   B ased on S Hussain Zaidi’s book, Anurag Kashyap’s gritty film  Black Friday  is an investigation drama set against the 1993 Mumbai blasts and underworld’s contribution in its execution.  Despite relentless controversy and delay, the film is cited as one of the best films

A severe crisis in the making!: India’s groundwater depletion

India’s north-western region is widely considered to be the country’s granary, with states such as Punjab and Haryana accounting for a large share of the country’s agricultural output and farm incomes. But farming in both these regions is increasingly becoming unsustainable, owing to depleting groundwater levels. The situation is equally precarious in the south-eastern parts of the country. Both these regions account for most of India’s groundwater-stressed blocks, as the chart below shows. The dependence of irrigation on groundwater increased with the onset of the so-called Green Revolution, which depended on intensive use of inputs such as water and fertilizers to boost farm production. Rather than extending surface water irrigation to unirrigated regions, policymakers began providing incentives for groundwater extraction. India's groundwater is becoming more difficult to access There's been a 6 percentage point dip in share of groundwater wells within 10 metres b

For-profit prisons have become the biggest lobby no one is talking about : The Washington post

(Benjamin C. Tankersley/For The Washington Post) Several industries have become notorious for the millions they spend on influencing legislation and getting friendly candidates into office: Big Oil, Big Pharma and the gun lobby among them. But one has managed to quickly build influence with comparatively little scrutiny: Private prisons. The two largest for-profit prison companies in the United States –  GEO  and Corrections Corporation of America  – and their associates have funneled more than $10 million to candidates since 1989 and have spent nearly $25 million on lobbying efforts. Meanwhile, these private companies have seen their revenue and market share soar. They now rake in a combined $3.3 billion in annual revenue and the private federal prison population more than doubled between 2000 and 2010, according to  a report  by the Justice Policy Institute. Private companies house nearly half of the nation’s immigrant detainees, compared to about 25 percent a decade ago,  a Huf

Which top company pays executives to keep them at company even when they're not leading anything ?

Google has a secret bench program that keeps executives at company even when they're not leading anything  Google's bench of veteran executives and engineers is deep and packed with familiar faces, and it's no accident. The Internet company's obsession with prized engineers and product gurus, and its competitive instinct to keep them away from rivals, means that certain executives can essentially rotate out of an active role for months or even years at a time, often getting paid to wait until the organisation needs them again.  Some of those veteran faces are back in the spotlight. Omid Kordestani, Google's first sales boss, was called back to active duty last year to oversee the business after the abrupt departure of chief business officer Nikesh Arora.  Brian McClendon, one of the early forces responsible for the popular maps product, has been in a quiet limbo for more than six months after leaving his post at the helm of the maps team last Fall. McClendon is

Does alignment of your feet's digits reveals whether you hail from Greek, Egyptian, Roman, Germanic or Celtic heritage?

IT'S long been said you can tell a lot about someone from the size of their feet. Well now, thanks to this nifty little graphic, you can size someone up by studying their toes. This interesting diagram from KuvatON.com suggests that the length of your toes denotes your ancestry. Apparently the alignment of your feet's digits reveals whether you hail from Greek, Egyptian, Roman, Germanic or Celtic heritage. What your toes say about you. Picture: KuvatON.com.   Source:  Supplied Don't agree? Keep your socks on. There's another toe test that might tickle your fancy. Let's Read Our Feet  author  Jane Sheehan  says your toe-length indicates more than your origin. "It's all about analysing the structure and texture and imbalances of the feet to understand someone's emotions and personality," she says. "When you are angry, how do you walk? When you are happy, how do you walk? When you are depressed, how do you walk? Ea

What makes the most powerful person in the world mentally strong ? Read what hardships Putin's family encountered.

Image: Putin with his mother. Vladimir Putin has written a column (something he very rarely does), recalling the stories of his parents who survived the hardships of the Leningrad blockade, his dead brother and World War II with very personal details. Forbes ranked Putin as the world most powerful person for the second consecutive year. This year he is followed by US president Obama was (rank 2), Xi Jinping of China (rank 3), Pope Fancis (rank 4) and Angela Merkel (rank 5). He is heading Russia as the president or the prime minister since 1999. He has run the country largest by land mass for 15 years. During that time USA has seen three presidents change. American president has to face resistance in his decisions from the congress while the Russian system allows Putin to take big decisions without an opposition. Putin writes: ‘My dad was breathing via a reed in a swamp while the Nazis passed by, just a few steps away’ Putin’s father, Vladimir, joined a small s
